3.0Date night was originally planned around supporting the New Vista Wine Walk, an amazing Downtown Summerlin event for a great cause. We ended up at Finney’s, a new spot in Downtown Summerlin. The Mrs. raved about the lemonade, so I gave it a try. I also had a Blondie beer, which was okay. We started with the chips and salsa. The chips had their own seasoning, and the salsa was darker than the typical red kind, almost like mole. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and it was really good. The large, crystal-clear ice cube had an “F” embedded in it. If you know the process behind making clear ice, you can appreciate that extra touch. We also shared the fried avocado appetizer. It was okay, but I’m a big fan of the cheesecake version, so if you love that one, this may not be your favorite. I had the fajitas and the Mrs. ordered a salad, which she enjoyed, including the dressing. The fajitas were lackluster: no traditional sizzling skillet at the table, a light portion of protein, and not much flavor. The location is great, the ambience was really nice, and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I wasn’t impressed with the greeting staff, but our waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. The atmosphere and Old Fashioned helped earn it about 3½ stars. I might come back to try the Wagyu cheeseburger, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.
