Live daylight

Golden hour in Summerlin

Summerlin has the valley's best light because it faces a 3,000-foot wall of red sandstone. Here are tonight's windows and exactly where to stand.

Seven Summerlin spots for the light

Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive — High Point Overlook

Red Rock NCA · SR-159

The highest pull-out on the 13-mile loop, looking east across the whole valley as the Strip lights come on behind you.

Tip: The loop closes at sunset — check the gate time and start the drive at least 90 minutes early.

Calico Basin / Red Spring boardwalk

Calico Basin · 89161

Free, open later than the Scenic Drive, and the red sandstone directly west of you lights up first.

Tip: Shoot east at the cliffs, not west into the sun — the sandstone glow is the whole show.

Summerlin Trail System — Bristle Cone / Bear Paw overlooks

Summerlin West · 89135

Paved neighborhood trail with elevated benches facing the escarpment. Zero effort, big payoff.

Tip: Ten minutes after sundown the whole valley floor turns amber. Stay for it.

Downtown Summerlin festival lawn

Downtown Summerlin · 89135

Western sightlines over the shops with the mountains behind — dinner and golden hour in one stop.

Tip: Park on the ballpark side; the light lasts longest at the north end of the plaza.

The Paseos Park

The Paseos · 89138

One of the highest village parks in Summerlin — you look down the valley, not across it.

Tip: Great blue-hour spot: city lights below, cliff silhouette above.

Fox Hill Park

Summerlin North · 89134

Big open lawn, wide western view, and easy parking for a last-minute sunset run.

Tip: Bring a blanket — the grass holds heat well into fall evenings.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

SR-159 · 20 min from Summerlin

Green lawns against red cliffs, and the site of summer outdoor theater. Day-use hours end early — confirm before you go.

Tip: Gates close well before dark in some seasons; verify the day's closing time.

Times are calculated from today's Summerlin sunrise and sunset (Open-Meteo, America/Los_Angeles) and are approximate. Red Rock Canyon gate and Scenic Drive hours change seasonally — confirm on recreation.gov before an evening drive.
